1955: Cotton Carnival

Everybody loves a parade! This was especially true for Memphians every spring when the old Cotton Carnival festivities included a grand parade down Main Street. The event featured a myriad of marching bands and elaborately themed floats from which Cotton Carnival Royalty and civic leaders greeted spectators.  Readers “of a certain age” may remember the excitement surrounding the parade, as folks from all over the Mid South gathered to celebrate “King Cotton.”
